An Average Child’s Developmental Milestones between 2 years and 3 years

  • Your child’s memory is still improving every day

The period 18 months to 6 years is termed as the Golden Age Period as children’s cognitive abilities is the most malleable as their brain is the most plastic at this age. A child’s ability to retain information for the long run is also the most at this age.

Hence, between 2 to 3 years is a wonderful window period to expose them to new information, ideas and concepts.

  • Your child can easily pick up 50 to 75 words

With their ability to remember information, it should be no surprise that children can pick up many words quickly. Their ability to discern sounds, and replicate the words they hear also account for the increase in their ever-expanding vocabulary.

  • Your child is becoming a rather proficient talker

As your child is picking up more words than before, they are growing into rather proficient talkers! Children start being chatty at this age as the number of words they recall has increased.

This is because they learn by hearing others use the words and most children can say words without knowing how to read them.

  • Your child is beginning to understand the concept of places and spaces

Between 2 and 3 years is also the time children grasp the concept of places and spaces. They start gaining spatial awareness and can understand the existence of large spaces versus small spaces, the space to the left versus the space to the right. This is also when they perceive “here” and “there” differently.

This also explains why toddlers at this age like to place objects in a box only to take it out repeatedly. Or they would start climbing up and down more than they did before.

The Stamford Difference for children between 2 and 3 years

Instead of relying on Traditional Education and its accompanying methods that are no longer effective nor beneficial, Stamford will instead focus on what New Education can bring for children. That is, other than laying their foundation in literacy and numeracy, we will also develop their abilities and skills.

  • Improving your child’s memory with Whole Brain Training

The Golden Age for child’s cognitive abilities to be improved is from 18 months to about 7 years old. Hence, rather than relying on traditional methods of rote learning, we will focus instead of improving a child’s cognitive ability – namely their memory.

  • Your child’s concentration ability with Whole Brain Training

The Golden Age for child’s cognitive abilities to be improved is from 18 months to about 7 years old. Hence, rather than relying on traditional methods of rote learning, we will focus instead of improving a child’s cognitive ability – namely their ability pay attention for extended periods of time.

  • Recognition of blends, digraphs, prefix and suffix etc

Since their ability to recognize more sounds improves with their increased memory and concentration abilities, Stamford introduces the more complex phonics sounds that they have the potential in retain and file away.

By learning the more complex sounds, children will have the ability to read longer, and more complex words.

  • Understand Place Values

Since children between 2 and 3 years are beginning to grasp the concept of spaces and places, Stamford also takes this opportunity to teach children Place Values. This enables to understand and visualize how big or how small numbers are, instead of merely rote counting or only recognizing them.
